  • Ok, so i just brought some rims....

OK so i just brought these rims a few hours ago,

17" 4x100 and 7" wide is all i know about them - apologies for more rookie questions but im praying these rims will fit on my mk3 golf once i put some new tyres on - the tyres on all 4 seem smoked which leads me to my question.

looking for cheap as possible tyres to fit these rims - can anyone advice me of what measurements i need for these rims plus, cost wise what am i looking at? thanks for all the help fellas

    Congrats on the wheels.

Fit them up and see what hits what, might need spacers to decrease offset, might need hub-rings or a bore out of the centre bore.

I run 205/40/R17 (dont know if 205 is legal on 7.5", you should be ok on 7"s) Kumho KU31s, cheap, ok quality. Will be similar size to what's on there.

Is the car lowered? You'll probably scrub in the back if it is, which is guard rolly rolly.

Long story short, fit them up and see, not confident? Don't let the car off the jack.

    p.s. you're missing a couple of bolts.

      thanks man,

the caar isnt lowered...yet, although i may look at doing so depending on how these look

i was thinking about just taking the rims down to a local garage and asking someone to fix me up with some cheap tyres and fit them for me...

if bolts are missing / or if i do need spacers or hub rings im assuming a local garage would be able to see that and have them available at the shop??

hopefully shouldn't cost to much - almost broke now

        New to Euros I assume

Joking (sort of, nothing seems to ever be available at the shop for these cars), they should do, otherwise try and find a brand on the wheels and that might give some clues where to look.

Hey man, if you're skint on money I can sell you my used adrenalins if you want? 205/40 and 215/40.....?

They'll fit up ok, won't get you into the hella flush/stance/fitment scene but that square, 5 spoke design works well with the mk3 box

Joe has some Eibach lowering springs that you may want to consider purchasing if he wants to let them go

You'll need some hub rings, the bore on those wheels will be bigger then your hubs (for universal fitment) so either get some plastic ones that the local tyre shop could source for you or get some milled up out of aluminum, I have $70 in my head for some reason, that may have been for just two though or the set? can't remember but realistically you really only need the fronts but I always run them front and back...

so if i understand correctly, i definitely need hub rings? if i purchase tyres from the shop ill ask for some plastic ones for the front wheels and depending on how much they cost maybe the back too

yeah man also interested if your selling cheap? how are the tyres looking tread wise and how much $$ are we talking about? i

also wondering how much the lowering springs cost..... ( man i wish i could fit these parts myself... will defo need a garage to help me mod this car)

yeh you'll need rings, they're cheap as, might as well get a set.... When I needed rings a while ago I had to slightly shave the ones the shop gave me because they weren't the correct fitment, chances are you might have to do the same; As Joe said, euro cars are a mystery to most shops over here and they simply don't carry the parts needed for them.....

I have the tyres on the car atm, i'd need to source some other wheels to roll on if you want them so see how you go at the tyre shop...

Hit Joe about the springs, he might not even want to sell them...

most 205/40s can go on a 8" legally, just depends on the brand, check the manufactures specs.
are the wheels actually multipiece... or just one piece with actual bolts for looks...?

Yeah I can sell the springs for sure, not 100% on their current location but sure we could sort you something, only thing is the fronts have only been on VRs so not sure if they'll sit higher seeing as your engine is quite a bit lighter.

those bolts are fake anyway.. so dont worry about the wheels seperating into 2 pieces on the road haha. unless you hit a gutter.

ok so i paid a visit to the shop this morning - some random place that looked cheap as im new to the gold coast and asked for some cheap ass 205/40/17's (set of 4)

the dude basically told me that these are mega expensive and only 3 company's make these tyres in australia? said id be looking at $300+ per tyre brand new and that finding second ones would be a mission... he then went on to saying that 215-40-17 would fit and that i could get brand new for roughly $120 a pop

to be fair - i am hoping to pick 4 tyres that fit for a couple of hundred bucks max

should i search the internet for 205-40-17 and order the cheapest set i can find OR go with 215-40-17 and search the net looking for cheapest set i can find...??????

in your own opinion what size would you go with if your looking for cheapest option?

Surprising what people at tyre shops don't know, I was told 205s wouldn't inflate on 7.5"s....idiots.

Option 1 Garage - performance car japanese performance parts Brisbane Queensland Australia workshop drift racing nissan

Call them, Kumho KU31s. They haven't listed them on the site, but around $145 each and their not Maxxis, Nankang, Posicraps....

Avoid those rubbish brands, your car will chew them up and be less fun and safe in the meantime, false economy a lot of the time.
