  • Cannot make up my mind! KW V2 or V3?!

    ****!

I cannot make up my mind. KW V2 last editions or V3s?! I can afford either.

I only do spirited drives atm, but will be hitting the track in a month or two for the usual weekend fun fun.

But, which one?!?!? Wheels world is dead keen on me getting V3 - they say the bump adjustments are awesome for track - but I dont see the point in only a mk3 vr6??

    Help quell a dubbers indecision!

I'm quite happy with the V2's spend the extra money on the sway bars and strut bars I say

I do alot of spirited runs and from what I have been told V2's are good enough, I think Flaps in the Polo section does alot of track days and he has only has V1's but with other suspension work!

      Hmmm. Thanks Steve!

      Any more opinions out there?

Thinking of also getting ECS Complete Heavy Duty Upper Strut Mounting Kit (here). On recommendation that one should replace the strut mounts when getting new suspension.

Will also be getting superpro control arm & rear axle pivot bushes.

Strut + sways will be done shortly after. Just want to get the coilovers and associated rubber stuck in first

I'm currently in the process of getting KW V2's installed, but unless you'll be doing constant adjustment to the rebound settings etc, I don't think that there is that much gain to be had with the V3's, other than having the stainless tube instead of galvanised, which is not really necessary here - no snow and salt.

I would recommend getting the heavy duty strut mounts as well, as I recently did a change of my old stock ones and they were as flat as a pancake, the metal core was sticking out. I would think that coilovers transfer more load to the strut mounts over stock.

KW V2 last eds - been quoted $1975.
            KW V3 - $2722.

I fancy a bit of a tinker now and then too, so the extra adjustment ability of the V3s might come in handy one day.

Seb (bug_racer) recommended I get polyeurathane strut mounts, but cant find any so far.

Been in 2 different cars with V2s, flawless is my verdict.

The nolathane site only lists camber bolts for Golf. ANY golf. Fail!
                  Might email them though...

Cant find the polyurethane mounts on germanautoparts, only the same as whats on the ECS site (albeit, slightly cheaper).

One thing i am wondering, will I need mounts for front & rear? or just front?

If you're changing them, may as well do the rears too. They receive the same amount of punishment. Maybe a bit less due to the engine being at the front I guess...

I don't have much experience with coilovers in Golfs but I did have them in my old SX Corolla and hated them, found them way too hard for normal road use. Having said this the KWs may be a different kettle of fish altogether, no intention of raining on your parade

Louis gave me a ride in his vr6 with h & R coils. Despite the massive grin on my face and soiled seats, the feel was way better than my springs + shocks combo. Plus his rear was literally touching the pavement
