205/45/17 alloys rub against arch
Hi there i have a mk3 VW golf and was wondering if i changed the rear shocks back to gas (last owner changed to oil) if it would stop the tyres from rubbing and would i have to roll the arches? when i load the back of the car they rub like hell, my tyre profiles are 205/45/R17. thanks in advance.

Hey, it's less about shocks and more about the offsets of your wheels, rolling the guards will prob help -
as per above. what are the offsets and widths of the wheels. guard rolling will help.
isnt 205/45/17 a little big for a mk3 as well guys? I do recall stu having them on his TT wheels thoComment

I think a 205/45 is probably too big for a mk 3. a 205/40 would be more suitable.
There could be a number of issues here at play: offset of wheel, condition of shocks and springs. perhaps some slightly uprated springs would be good, if you are carrying 'loads' often, or even new OEM springs the original ones would have sagged by now. otherwise check the shocks to make sure they're working properly too.
Rolling the gaurds will most likely help the situation though, and probably the cheapest option.

I'm running 215/35/17 With a little tuck and don't rub.
Although I do have coilovers even with 3 90kg blokes in the back it doesn't.Comment
