  • Mk3 Engine mounts - replacing

    Hi All,

my engine mounts need replacing and was thinking of using the ones with harder material (the ones that neuspeed/autotech sell).

would appreciate any feedback of your experience and any tips/advice on DIY changing the engine mounts.

    Thanks

What sort of engine is it? I had BFI Stage 1 mounts in my vr6 and I liked them, really couldnt notice all that much more vibration at all. Apprently for the 4 cylinders theyre a bit too stiff and you will feel a lot. Id go for like a stage 0.5 then.

Engine mounts arent too hard if you have a rough idea of how to do car things.. Basically unbolt the mounts 1 at a time, jack the engine up a little, new mount in, bolt back up.

I got mine done by a mechanic as it was just easier for me and I wasn't keen on doing it. I bought OEM mounts as they were dirt cheap from dubaddiction (forum sponsor here) and will do the job fine. Stiffer ones are a good idea but it can spoil the drive if too much vibration is there, my mates VR6 has solid mounts and the vibrations are quite bad.

Black Forrest Industries (BFI) Stage 0.5 were a good upgrade in mine, made getting on the gas after a gearchange much smoother, and let's face it smooth is what the VR6 does.

I've got BFI Stealth mounts which are polyurethane and are rated in between OEM and the Stage 0.5 mounts. I've recently pulled them out of my car too and are for sale. The transmission mount is the solid rubber one for the G60. Perfect upgrade if you're looking for stiffer mounts but don't want to compromise in-cabin comfort. PM me if you're interested!

Thank you, appreciate your replies and advice. The engine is a four. Have the basics, tools, stands and trolley jack and was just making sure before doing it. Thanks for the offer Ray, will PM you if I decide to go the BFI/G60 route.
