I just used a can of flat black paint from bunnings. $7. Because of the texture of the the bumper tho, you might be better off using gloss. if you really get fancy, you could evey try using a cn of clear coat to finish it.

i dont think i have every seen a mk3 with colour coded arches, top part of bumper and skirts....im think ing it would look odd but also thinking it would look pretty cool, maybe a bit ricey?!

anyone got a pick of one?

I know how annoying are the plastic GTi kits, if anyone has suffered with these, its me, i had them on my original Mk1, my Mk2 16v and now on the VR. Ive seen them painted on the mk1 and mk2 but not the mk3, people usually take them off and give it the later model look....

mine doesn't have wheel arches but everything else is colour coded.
the only parts that aren't are the side door trims, the front and back bumper and the rear spoiler.

the top of my bumber (just under the lights) is colour coded on mine. is this a '97 standard?

I have thought about taking off the flares but it looses its appeal! You also have to find if its rust or needs painting usual they all need painting if your going to do that!

for that smooth look, i would take the arches off, colour code the sills and the front and rear bumpers.....

It would prob need a full respray if you were to take them off, but if your going to do that, you might as well get a late model....
