  • Headlining LCD and interior lights..

Took out my headliner this morning, cause it's stained, saggy and horrible.

I'm fairly sure i'm going down this path..cause it was grey.

    *black retrim of headliner

*spraying the grey a,b and c pillar plastics black (whats the best thing to use? vinyl spray?)

    * placing a 5inch or 2.5 inch lcd where the interior light usually goes, (it will connect to my head unit via rca)

    * working out how to still have interior lights??

feedback and comments encourage, the only issue i can think of at the moment is the legality of the monitor..i believe i can live with that.

    Cheers

VHT vinyl spray dye is pretty good for plastics, you can use normal paint if you use a plastic primer first but some of the aerosol primers are nasty. I've never had any luck at all with the holts plastic primer spray, gives a horrible finish. There may be some other better ones out there tho.

I'd be interested to see how the retrim of the headliner goes. Have you thought about putting the monitor where the normal stereo is then have the deck in the centre console? I can prob dig up a pick for you from vortex of how it looks, itd save a lot of ****ying around with the roof.

        Edit:

        Here it is!

thanks for that, that may be something to consider..i have to try and source a monitor that will suit the application too. Oh and one more thing, it's heaps noisy in there with no head liner!

Now you have it removed may be worth installing dynamat in the roof, expensive but excellent stuff.

thats where the airbag should be right? are they on any localy delivered cars? I was look at the headliner again, can i put a tomtom up there? hide all the wiring etc..? I despise the look of navigation systems stuck to the windscreen, with wires running here, there and every where. But is it required for satalite signal to have it on the screen?

Im not sure about the legalities but would u feel comfortable leaving it in there permanently? I had a bit of a read about redoing the headliner and it looks like im gonna give it a try too lol!!!

Oh btw all aus delivered cars had airbags so we didnt get the upper glove box.

yeh i was lookin at moving all my stuff around... putting the normal player down the bottom and putting a slidey touchscreen in the top hole.

how much would it be to redo the headliner? mine is getting saggy and it currently rests on my head when i drive (doesn't help being a tall and lanky bugger...) i think i'd redo it black or red... haven't decided...

I'm really not worried about having the nav integarted as far a security thing..It's not really the first place to look. As for the cost of the headliner i'm not sure, Drive in and drive out prolly $150? There was a guy in Brisbane who did them for $80, but he died. If you want a non standard colour it costs more..

Cost of fabric + glue is about all you need for headlining.

Thanks Ray..thats a nice simple page with good pictures, I was happy to take off the liner myself but unless i find some really unique material that wont get me bored very quickly i'm gonna drop the thing off and let them do it. Im also hoping I can call in a favour from a motor trimmer, I just figured it would save me spending the cash on glue etc, only to stuff it up. A lot of the people on the vortex have had their liner sag after only a short time..I'm off to buy some black VHT spray. Cheers
