Mate check for split hoses/vac lines etc that can throw them codes. Watch the O2 sensor in measured value blocks with Vag com mate and see them fluctuate.

Check those codes on Ross Techs site and also look for the explanation of fuel trim. I can't remember which way it goes but one form of the problem occurs at idle due to an air leak which the ECU cannot compensate for.

Ok then mixture adaption code 00561 is related to unmetered air. What is a vac leak??????? Hmmmm. G70 airmass meter also could be faulty and of course once again the lambda probe. Unmetered air also upsets the lambda probes. A sticky activated charcoal valve or too high fuel pressure also throws this code. 000537 also relates to unmetered air, or fuel pressure too low so it cant be that coz 00561 means it could be high. Back to unmetered air. Dont know how many times ive seen lambda probes fitted and there is nothing wrong with them, just because a fault relates to lambda it doesnt mean its the probe. The probe is reading what its getting guys, corrcet me if im wrong. When i was with Porsche the boxters were bad for throwing these codes and it ended up being a split crankcase breather hose (unmetered air) very rarely fitted probes unless they were old and tired.

I kinda agree with you on the unmetered air thing. All the reading ive done in regards to these codes or similar ones seems to relate to steering away from it actually being the O2. If i thought it was that simple i wouldnt have posted up here!
Thanks for your input though. Im by no means a mechanic. maybe im a saddist but i kinda enjoy problems like this. theyre always a learning process

my car has just ticked over 220000kms. how long does an o2 sensor usually last?

just to put a spanner in the works around 120ks then they start to get tired if its the original one. Im like you mate i love the diagnostics mate.

hmm new problem seems to be developing. I wonder if its related to the one i have outlined already.
It seems when my fuel guage gets to around 1/4 full the car seems to starve of fuel when going around left hand corners. The fuel guage is accurate as its still filling the same amount of fuel as it used to when topped up from 1/4 tank. Once I fill her up again she drives fine.

Could this be a fuel pressure issue? If so how could it only occur when the tank gets lower but nowhere near empty?

I did read that fuel pressure can relate to some of the codes i have pulled earlier in the thread.
