Where the hell are they. Seen 8v's in oz and one 16v but none on this forum?

Engine-swapped or imports? I know two engine swapped - Sean's white one in Melbourne and ex-Oli's burgundy one. Don't know where that one is anymore.
    Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

Yeah it's strange. They went to New Zealand though (bsting on the forums has one).

As mine came (heaps of supermarket dents) and a kiddie seat standard ride height!!!

96 ex-uk (miles on dash) GTI 2L 8V AGG 115hp O2O cable clutch box. ABS,PS,PW,AC,Sunroof, black VR6 sport seats, black dash and door cards, smoked tails, brakes are from the VR6 and the 15"s are called 'long beech' foglight kit too
The 5dr 16v's we get here are ex-japan imports in silver, white, red and black and there is one dragon green 16v about. 16v running gear is pretty much all from the VR6 not the GL/CL. And the 16v will have EDL in the diff, a basic traction control linked to the ABS, it is automatic and stops working over 40kph

NZ did not get the VR6 colour concept like you guys have

Bit of a saggy bum here lol

Haha that ride height is insane. Its like someone forgot to put the engine in it.

Yeah it is a crack up, factory shocks are rubbish!!
evorobin, hope you dont mind me posting 2 more pics in your thread

97 GTI 2L 16v ABF 150hp O2A box with hydraulic clutch (same gearing as the VR6) 5dr. The GTI's get the 2slat grille from the VR6 in the cars colour.
This one has been painted black, as have the VW badges, standard ride height !!!

Nice pics Bsting. When I was buying a GTI in the UK in 99 all the mk3 ones in my price range had been thrashed so got a tidy mk2. The 16v I saw in Adelaide years ago had interstate plates on and was black.

No worries mate. Pity you guys cant get em in aussie, or even bring them in ex-japan, they are good well spec'd daily cars.

Not a patch on a well sorted mk1 or 2 in the handling stakes

                        Dragon green GTI bog standard

                          So I take it Mk3 GTI's dont have a turbo like Mk4 GTI's?

Sadly, they are all N/A The 16v ABF ones go good, but you have to keep them above 3500-4000 rpm when feeding them!

Surprisingly there's a big noticeable difference between the 16V in the GTI and 8V in the GL. Oli gave me a spin in one when he still had his and it pulls very hard for a 2.0L!
