  • Where to find oil filter housing gasket, mk3 vr6?

Hey all, I'm trying to find an oil filter housing gasket for a mk3 vr6. I went to vw but its NLA, I've looked online and found it but it seems the places I've tried want $60 postage for a $7 gasket :| Does anyone know where I can find one of these in aus? Or o/s but somewhere that doesnt want to charge a stupid amount to ship it?

    This is what I'm after:
    Oil Filter Stand Gasket, 12v VR6 [ 021115446A ] - UroTuning.com - Parts for VW Audi Porsche BMW

Also if someone has one from a motor that isn't broken and doesn't leak I'd take that aswell

Can you do a DIY Gasket from either a liquid gasket or maybe a gasket kit from supercheap or Repco until you find one in Aus?

Rather not risk it tbh, I've bitten the bullet and ordered one from gap, hoping the shipping wont be more than $10 or so for it...

Just the actual gasket and nothing else?
I thought GAP policy was no international shipping orders below $50....

Ahhh crap, I just saw this: We gladly accept international orders but please be aware that all orders shipped outside the United States must total at least $50.00.
Fail. Really getting fed up with this car and it's only been a month... Not a good sign :\

Well, I won't be trying to deal with him again. I'm actually disgusted by how he just spoke to me when I called him back to find out if he had any luck finding what I needed... Telling me I'm wrong and the part I need isn't as I described it, even though I have the expanded blow out view of the engine printed out from vw infront of me, multiple pictures from multiple sites showing the same thing. Then telling me he 'can't be bothered' trying to find me the part as I refused to take my car apart just to make sure he was right. Absolutely disgusting and you can damn right bet I won't be calling there again, or referring anyone else to.

Anyway, I've emailed Mark at GAP with a list of things I need, including the gasket and waiting for a response about shipping and payment.

Throwing your attitude around as a young kid chasing a 20c part and the arcing up when I tried to explain that that won't be the problem, will not assist you on finding help. If you actually can take the car apart yourself and bother to do so, there are three far more likely possibilities which will be the culprit. I have the part you want brand new and if you had actually diagnosed it correctly or come down to see us and introduce yourself, the outcome would have been very different. I'm pretty sure I have fixed, rebuilt and tuned a lot more vr6 s than you and have never needed that gasket. Also aggressively telephoning again about the 20c part and bullying the girly who's second day it was into getting me out from under an audi is not guaranteed to get you the best price or service. It's a two way street. Hope you grow out of it with your nappies and get that chip fixed up.

Wow, just wow. Firstly I din't bully anyone? I asked to speak to you? I don't see how that is bullying? I said word for word "Hi, just wondering if matt was around?" /confused. Fair enough, you have more experience with these cars, I never said you hadn't but to just totally dismiss what I had been saying on the phone with out listening to what I was saying wasn't exactly the right way to be dealing with it. The three other possibilities you talk about I'm going to assume are the 3 sensors and the washers associated with said sensors? If so, it's not them, I have cleaned up around them and watched to see where the leak is coming from, it is defiantly in between the filter housing and the engine block. It may never have come up before but this is what is wrong on my car. It is also slightly difficult for me to come see you as I'm in a different state. So please before you accuse me of things, like 'aggressively telephoning you about a 20c part', listen to what I have to say, instead of dismissing me as some 'kid chasing a 20c part'. If you have the gasket and are willing to sell it to me then fine we can do that and move on, if not then I really having nothing else to say here.

Interesting that you come on here as the new kid on the block and belittle the older and wiser members on here.

The link you post is for a Mk4 24v Vr6 and is completely different to the setup you have on your car, which is a 12v early engine.

I believe the gasket you need is
                              Oil Cooler O-Ring Seal

[038117070A] Oil cooler O-Ring seal. With locating tabs

This goes above the square oil cooler and is a common thing to leak. There are two kinds of filter housing on early VR6s and I believe yours will have a flat seal type gasket against the block and then an O ring seal.

If you have taken it apart and have the part in your hand and are reading the number from it, I believe you are a serious customer.

If you are some kid who looked up a part number on an American website and has not examined the part on his own car, forgive me for doubting your genuine intentions. I`m not suprised the dealership said NLA, probably thought you had NFI!

If you were an existing customer, or purchasing another item or two, I would be more interested. I am extremely busy and my time is precious, I am aware you are anxious to get your car fixed, but there are other ways of addressing the issue.

I am more than happy to send you parts, perhaps you can do some investigation on the car or the net and then we can have a civilised discussion in the morning. I will do likewise, I will check out etka first thing and take a filter off a scrap engine if necessary.

I would appreciate your removing the negative and defamatory comments you have placed elsewhere on the net as a sign of goodwill and then I will do my utmost to help you.

By the way, welcome to our happy community.
