  • Have you dyno'd your car? Power losses?

    Hey,

Just wondering if anyone has dyno'd their MK3s, particularly VR6s. Just interested to see if people have got the power that they've expected or if they've had power losses over the years. I haven't dyno'd mine and I don't expect power losses but who knows? Just curious

youve got to expect some power loss from the age of the car. As for a figure, well it all depends on the history of it, how well it was maintained, how it was driven amongst other things

They lose a bit, you (well atleast I could) feel a difference between stock vr6's I was test driving, mine with its low km's felt as though it pulled much harder, so I snapped it up

You have to remember these cars are up to 17 years old now, you cant expect supercar performance.

Put mine on the dyno in March when I bought it, stock with 270 000 odd kms, still pulled just short of 124hp at the wheels

60-something killer wasps at the wheels for my 8V! This was after a cam upgrade and lightweight bits mind you. 85kW at the fly says the factory booklet.

In addition to age and normal engine wear and tear, there are also driveline/transmission losses and the slippage between the dyno rollers and the
              tyres

Mine pulled 108 fwkw/ 165hp (think that was the HP conversion, cbf doing maths atm lol) with a 2.25" magnaflow cat back and open K&N pod.

Depends on so much.. Turbo cars suffer from heat soak on dyno's! It's ok the first run, but they can start dropping off power after that. NA cars should stay pretty consistent.

looks like u've never been to a dyno day before?
i think the usual loss is about 5 or 6kw but as mentioned it really depends on how much u thrash it. too much an i think it comes down to about 101kw.
oh an oil changes as well.

from what I've read if your still making over 100kw at the front wheels on a stock vr6, you're doing really well, most are under. Not all dynos give the same numbers and such though so its not much of a comparison.

I dont know about dynos but the other day I got sandwiched at the lights by two jap import lancer evos about to have a drag! Gave it some curry as well and was literally left for dead!! Vr6's are quick and kind of sleepers which makes them fun but against more modern japanese stuff..... haha
Maybe I should dyno it and see what I'm working with!
