  • What I did, and why all of you should do it too!

    Hey guys,

So over the weekend I put my car back together. I had to change my front wheel bearings, so I decided with the car being apart I'll refresh the whole front end.

I bought new tie rod ends, ball joints, front control arm bushings, R32 solid rear control arm bushings, sway bay end links. I installed everything myself, with the help from canberra vw centre in belconnen to press the bushings in. Took me and stoie about an hour to put everything back together.

I can not describe the difference between the old shagged components and the brand new parts. Especially the R32 solid bushings. The stability of the car has increased by a huuuge amount. Sitting on 160 and theres barely any play at all. It really makes driving the car a whole lot better!

I've got a 2.slow, my old sway bar links were way past there due date, the bushings didnt appear to be in too bad a shape, Tie rods were a bit sloppy a long with the ball joints.

I ordered all the parts from GAP and it cost me $198.70AU inc postage and I recommend this to everyone!

Heres a photo to keep all you kids happy

Mines the ghetto spec yellow bonnet mk3 haha.

I did mine once ages ago too, changed every piece of rubber bushing/mount I can get my hands on. I eventually even changed the steering rack mounts (went for non-power steering and installed polyurethane ones) as well as BFI engine mounts. The car handled very well, and although I couldn't catch up to most cars on the straights, I could easily keep up in the turns

Shipping on that order was around 60 bucks mate. The box only weighed a couple of kgs if that gives you an idea.
