  • Warning: Abusive seller of a Mk3 Golf

    I enquired about buying a 98 mk3 VR6 today, a car I have wanted for a long time.

I sent a genuine enquiry, stating I was willing to drive 7 hours to inspect the car, and I was given the following responses in order:

Me: Is the car in good mechanical condition, is there anything wrong, could you post some interior shots etc etc

Seller: yer the cars been cut in half, with a gl end and a vr6 front welded togethor, with a daihatsu 2 cyl engine, it flies when i pull the handbrake.

Me: is this some kind of joke? I am genuinely interested, can I call you?

Seller: nah im just ****ing you around, i know you are wasting my time

Me: I am genuinely interested in this car, if I could call you, we could discuss, I have someone in your town who can inspect the car tomorrow

Seller: get lost go buy someone elses vr6 im not selling it you i know ur screwing me around

WTF, i have never been so rudely treated in my life by soemone selling a car, it was rediculous, if anyone knows this person smack him in the back of the head, also this serves as a warning to anyone wanting to buy this car.

What a knob.. in defense of the guy if u emailed it does say ring or text..he is pretty clear in description except no interior pics.
he did state mechanical so if he wrote it in add then hes going to say that anyway. his add also says it needs to go new car on the way
negotiable....He doesnt sound like that in your enquiry. Take good look at it if you do get to otherwise dont stress if things dont match up or seem right its usually for a reason..If what you wrote here in forum is the full story with nothing missing dont stress his vibe says he doesnt want to tell you something or he doesnt know so look more carefully. I say lets all hound him but wont use the forum for ganging up on boneheads.

Nah I didnt email him, that was me just writing out the text messages onto here.

            I think either

a). He is drunk, someone has stolen his phone

            or

b). he is just a plain knob.

What a cock-end. I wouldn't waste my time dealing with a person like that anyway.

If you're still interested, give him a call and show that you're serious. I would've called him straight away if I received that first reply from him.

I wouldn't buy of that guy if it was the best VR6 in the world & he was offering hookers & coke as a bonus. It sounds to me like he is the timewaster.

Reply back to him that it's his loss. You still have your cash & there are always plenty of other VR6s coming up for sale where the owners are helpful & not tosspots.

I agree with you. However, This wonderful piece of machinery needs to be taken care of and put in the right hands... You obliviously know what you want and have a handle on it.
I'd call him and when you meet him show him his text messages and talk him down in price because of his rudeness, I"m sure he would drop the price as he would be embarrassed. Turn this around and make him pay. That's what I would do. Even if he is an ungrateful, Penis Receiving *******!

Just food for thought that's all. For that condition, being a VR6 for that price you can't go wrong. Just call him, get your mate to check it out and negotiate from there. Make this turn in your favour, would be a waste of a great car if you didn't.

Dealing with a buyer that is 7 hours away can be a pain. A lot of back and forth etc all for the possibility of maybe selling the car.. No excuse for the above obviously.

But... If you like the car I would suggest trying to defuse the situation. Not escalating it. If you have someone local that can check out the car. Just get them to contact the seller direct. They dont need to know it is on your behalf until the time comes to do the transaction. That way he gets a chance to see youre a serious buyer, you get to have the car inspected and everyone ends up happy.. Well either that or the guy is a twat

I wouldn't bother with it personally. I think you could find just as reasonably priced vr6's out there anyway.

don't bother. although it might be mint, the behaviour you have experienced is far from good. Ask yourself would you buy a new car, TV or similar if you were treated this way? I certainly wouldn't.
