How fat can you go on your mk 3?

i wanna go 9's all round... has anyone on here done it or are you sitting on 9's all round?
if so pics and sizes and offsets !

8.5's all round atm but want at least 9's maybe 9.5's

dunno if many people in oz are on 9's but every second mk3 on vortex is on 9's so its easily done. just need to roll your guards and find a decent offset

      looks for rayray.

I think for 9" on the front, you'll have to do arch work, big stretch etc. hard work, but do-able.

      pics of 8.5" needed though!

didnt mickey have 8.5s jrad? On the TT wheels?
As well as what jarred said, some serious lows to pull those front wheels in.

ah right, you've got mickeys old car. Makes sense now.

You could always go some corvette wheels. 16x9.5

              (although I love the TT's!)

Salad shooters? :p I'm undecided on the look of them! Not sure if I like them or whether they would suit my car! I want to buy schmidts but I want 9's all round not 7.5 on the front! 16's of corse!

lol, i feel ya on the schmidts!

Also agree, that the salad shooters might not work on your car.

Thanks for the intro Jarred haha For reference, I'll be referring to a Mk3 with rolled arches all around, on coilovers, standard camber, 16" wheels.

9's all-round are doable, rears have a bit of offset to play with (ET15 on at least 205s up to ~ET30 if you take helper springs out to give clearance from the spring perches). Fronts you have a very narrow window to play with. I remember with 8.5" ET35, the fronts were poking very slightly but the tyre was extremely close to the spring perch. I had the helper springs out so I could go with that offset. I reckon with some coilover setups, you definitely have to go for ET30.

I reckon with 9s, an ideal size would be to go ~ET27 and rears, ~ET17, 205/40s all around. This is already some decent poke. If you can dial some camber, for every degree, lower the offset another ~4mm.

I haven't tried 9s before unfortunately but if I had a set, I think they will be my ideal sizes. I would add some 2.5 degree camber shims on the rear and with the same offsets, the rim would've sat almost close to the edge of the arch, so I would've been able to slam it to the ****house.

This was Mickey's 16x9 ET15 Schmidt ML setup (205/45 Kumhos I think they were?) on an extra negative 1.5 degree camber over standard (probably bringing it to a final camber value of ~2.5-3.0 degrees):

It was hard for him to go lower as the rub was pretty crazy. I would've added a touch more camber and went 195/45 tyres to eliminate almost all wheel rub.

                      ray! the king! hahah

I'm thinking that 205/40's on the rear may have helped on those schmidts? I only say this, cause a 195/45 is a HELL of a lotta stretch on a 9" wheel.

Thanks heaps for the info ray!

Will be able to reply when i have time.

Off the top of your head can you remember what offset mickeys Schmidt ML were? the rears that is? id love to buy them but i cant have a 7.5 on the front! toooo skinny! plus the concave on the 9" is just perfect!

True that jarred the 195/45 would imo look that little bit too much stretch i think! then again it all depends on the look of the rest of the ride!

Any millimetre helps in this game! 205/40 would've been a lot better (same situation Bima is in now) but the cost is more and choice of tyre is limited too.
