Guys if you have problems with your heater core leaking DO NOT just block off the pipes that go into the heater core and the return . Make sure that you rejoin them if you are going to delete the heater core from the system. i have seen about 4 cars now with the pipe blocked and this line is the main water line for the head.
!!With this blocked your motor will DIE !!
Make sure you rejoin the pipes to create a complete circuit for the water to flow.
what i will do when my heatercore leaks is run some radiator sealant through the system the core is leaking already so you car is wet, its worth a try and im sure it would work.

better listen to brenton.. there should be a flow in those pipes. I used a copper U shaped pipe to bypass the heater core.

you can block off the heater core but you have to join the pipes on the motor

the hose that goes from behind the head and tee's off to the throttle body. will go up to the firewall and connect to the heatercore, this pipe is the one holden mech's always block off. it has to be joined to the pipe that came of the other end of the heater core. if you just follow the pipe from the back of the head and make sure that it joins back into the system .
                cheers brenton

My heater core is leaking so i bypassed it. Just got a U bent pipe for the 2 pipes. Its gotta be better the blocking it completely.
