  • get'n the power downlow on a VR6

Yep. I love the power on a the VR6. But i want it to come it a lower than 3200rpm.

I do understand that you can only reach about 190 - 200hp with normal mods. Needs a charger for more hp gains.

What are the mods to get more hp and get more on the downlow?

I have lightend flywheel, BMC CDA air box, and apparently it has a powerchip? but i know nothing about it and I really want info on this.
I need to put it on a dyno too. Im curious
    yea. thats about it.

How about cams? are they worth it? ported/polished throttle body? Different chip?

Putting a shorter diff ratio in would definitely help, stock ratio is quite tall, made for autobahns i think Would probably be a costly exercise unless you can do the work yourself though

        + this

        =

        ZOOOOOOM!

You'd probly want a TDI 5th gear though to keep the fwy cruising rpm below 3k

shorter diff would work but I like the top end as well. I want best of both worlds lol. Might aswell bolt up a supercharger that would be soo cool.

In Performace VW or Golf+ mag it has a supercharged stage 2 VR6 Vento. Pushing out 250hp I think. still it only makes it up to 60mph (100kmph) in about 6.8 seconds. Now thats not that quick compared to volkswagens time for VR6's being 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds.

A shrick intake manifold would be good too... But whats the gains? hp and 0 to 100?

the gain is probly on 15HP up top. Its the low down torque u get that makes the difference. I have seen dynos with an extra 30nm at some points in the torque curve. 0 - 100 i have no idea. Its more about making the car more driveable.
A shorter diff wont make u lose top end unless you want to do 200km/h plus! The only problem is the above two items would cost a packet! especially getting the final drive gear installed.

I seriously considered getting the ring and pinion off you tim but alas I haven't the skills or tools to do it myself and I think the cost would outweigh the benefits if I had to pay someone else to do it

From my trip to the drags, we worked out that i should be doing 0-100 in the mid to high 6's, and i only have a pipe and CDA. if the vento can only do the same times with a blower and 250hp, why would you bother?
The blower must make a better gain on the golf, else somthing is going realy bady wrong.

i think u will find that with most boosted VR6s that traction would be a serious issue. I have trouble getting power down off the line without any major engine mods.

A vento is a bit heavier than a Golf don't forget also you have to look at other things than just a blower!

I know of a Golf at the moment in production which is hoping for about 170kw at the wheels his hoping to do 13s if not lower! This is NA and he is spending $10 000 on which I am helping.

13's are possible with just NA tuning and a bit of diet - there was a thread on Vortex about this, like what the guy did and all. I'll try and dig it up when I get back home.

Yeah I remember that Raymond was good. Also a turbo conversion I have heard can run some problems but I have also heard that you can run up to 7psi on stock computer

the problem is that the kits form the states don't work on our vr6's because LHD/RHD and that our ECU is significantly different to theirs as our emission control is a little slacker (ie. no EGR or secondary air pump.)

I'd love to turbo my VR6 but as the car is getting on in KM's i think the money spent on bringing the motor up to a standard I'm happy with, I'd be better off buying a Bora V6 4 Motion and importing a VF supercharger kit.

That being said there are guys in the states that are running 8psi on 200k mile engines and making good reliable power.

                            It's a tough call IMHO.

I'd buy a newer VR6 motor with less k's, work it, s'charge it then drop it in.

I'd also win lotto & get a RWD drive train fabbed up

Or I'd buy an R32... and s'charge THAT!
