Yh, was just confused about what you meant. Thanks for clearing it though.

I'd be checking it out mate, looks very clean for that money. A clutch isn't a massive deal, but as stated above other things may need to be checked. Set aside a little money in preparation for any other problems that may occur, but mk3's are pretty reliable.

haha thats what you told me as well in the thread i made about a sus vr.
yeh i did proceed with caution and this is what i found using a vw machanic: control arm/bushings gone, oil leaking out from drive shafts & rocker cover and a steering pump that was on its way out.
Plus the pics he uploaded DID NOT portrait what it actually looked like, the pics show a damn fine mint looking dark green colour, instead the clear coat was pealing off in varous places.
id recommend using a vw machanic, but generaly speaking gl/cl's from my experence, seems that window regs/motors are the only annoying problem.

I guess it also depends on what your level of mechanics is. I bought a 95 2.0GL few months ago and paid $1300. All the electric window regs needed attention, which ended up costing me $200 in parts. All 4 now work perfectly. The central locks didn't work either, but all that turned out to be was a pipe had come of the actuator.

The heater core was leaking pretty badly, but again, I sourced a new one from the UK for around $100. It took a couple of days to fit tho, but I saved over a grand in garage fees. It also need a new centre muffler, which was done for $300 and a new rocker gasket ($50).

All up, the car has cost less than $2000.

So, a MK3 can be bought for that sort of money, and if you have the skills and time to do the work yourself, then you can grab a bargin.
