Radio dodging codes?

Picked up a mk3 with a radio code lost somewhere in the da vinci code, is there any sneaky way to dodge this (some sort of factory reset??)? If you're wondering, I didn't nick a 16yr old Golf cassette player.... there's just not the money in it that there used to be.

Likely response is 'buy a CD player you tube', but I'll iRig it so it can look original in the dash with ipoddy goodness, and something about those pop off faceplates gets my goat, and I DO NOT like my goat to be got.

Yeah in for this as well. Are the codes supposed to be somewhere in the owner's handbook? At the moment there is no radio in one of my mk3's. I think pov 90's stereo is better than no music at all. Cool.

you could try disconnecting the battery until the computer resets (i think its 30min or 1hr).

if your replacing the original radio with a newer aftermaket one, i dont think the problem transfers over to the new one (well thats what i think).

Theres still mk3's out there with the original radio? Goodluck could always replace it with something oem looking..

Yeah I know the code's only for the headunit itself, I don't think a reset will do anything, good suggestion though!

And yes...it was one of those owned by an old lady jobs, few dents on the body but overall pretty mint.

I see the point about getting something OEM looking, probably the way to go. What did VR6s come with, mine always had some aftermarket rubbish in it.

Try taking it out and see if some helpful person wrote the number on the stereo itself.

The owners manual is another good place to look, if it's still there.

haha im in the same predicament!! i grabbed an oem radio out of a mk3 (eurovox 6330 oe) to put in my mk1. From my investigation-ing you can either; try and guess the code 111111-666666 (waiting around 30 mins between lockouts), pay eurovox $22 to send you the code security code request form or call a dealer and they should be able give you the code through their system (i've been trying this for the last week but VW are far too busy to answer my calls) but they may want to charge depending on they're mood so i've heard.

Killingwithasmile is on it, from memory you take the radio out and there is a sticker with a number on it, go to the eurovox website pay $20 or so and they email and mail you the unlock code for your unit!

Haha cool, I've gone OEM in my old age, the dash is out and everything is everywhere so shouldn't be hard to find, got a few things to sort before this, but was just a finishing touch I was thinking of.

VW gave me the code for the radio i have today and for nothing.. all too easy

Volkswagen might give you the code.

There are many online sites will give you the code for a small fee. As far as I know, the codes are somehow calculated from factory using the serial numbers on the sticker on the radio. There is a software you can use to get you this code - basically you just enter you serial number and magic will happen.

If you search online you might get lucky and find a free version (cracked) of the software and do it yourself. It is always handy to have such software incase you or even forum members might need it
