I agree with ray, to buy a whole kit is pretty stupid, consider it's like a metal pipe. in our generation golf K&N sells the kit with only a flexi plastic pipe.
You can get those pool pipes for literally 11 bucks.

The hot air flap helps with startups on cold mornings to warm the air.
Its not that crucial in Australia.
If you are gonna drill the airbox, drill around the flap, not through it.
