  • Yet again gearbox oil questions 02j VR6

    HI there all,

I have just had a brand spanker new 02j (vr6) arrive from the us and have read many conflicting stories about what gearbox oil to use... I currently have an unopened bottle of penrite sin 75w-85 that I am reluctant to use as most recommend 75W-90. also does anyone know the capacity for this gear box.

Any comments on additives too, are appreciated, i used to own TIGAR and it had shifting problems but nulon g70 seemed to help heaps.

Throw all you info and experiences.

    Cheers.

75W90 is the stuff, they hold about 2 litres. You fill them until the oil dribbles back out the filler hole.
I usually whack 2 litres in through the speedo drive hole.

Are you sure it's an 02J as the VR6 runs an 02A from the factory. 02J is a mk4 box.

Definite 02j - sourced from Overland parts - owner of eurospec, they fited 100mm flanges + older style shift mechanism (new one) + delivered for about $2300. The 02a I am yet to work out what happened (no burn outs!!! ) the output shaft outputted itself through the casing (clutch side) when my gfriend slipped off the clutch pedal in reverse whilst stationary. Surely it should be able to handle a bit more than this, I know reverse is not the gear to be accidently dropping the clutch in, but was basically at idle.

BTW thanks for the post, the oil is expensive and will need to be swapped. I hear everyone rave about redline. anyone use penrite out there???

      Cheers and thanks again
