Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Well the radiator decided to spew out a whole lot of coolant (mostly water because I've had to keep filling it up thanks to leaking) twice in a day, so I've parked in in the carport until the new radiator is in. You can see heaps of crusty crappy pink coolant all over the current one. Luckily this bad boy just arrived about half an hour ago:

I'll change the radiator when I get the chance, I'll have the car up on stands in the mean time which means I can work on my wheels too.

Bought a polishing kit off eBay for 38 bucks shipped which includes buffing wheels, drill attachment and different polishing compounds. Anybody know where I can buy some aircraft paint stripper?

Guess which one is the new one? Changed the radiator on the weekend with fairly minimal headaches which was a nice change! Car is up on stands while I do my wheels now.

Has anyone done an antenna delete/change of location or whatever, not particularly liking the giant thing hanging off the roof. I assume there's a plug for it too?

I'm in the same boat. Hate my antenna. I've never seen someone use a plug; I don't see why not. Most weld, or bog it.

In my opinion you'd have to shave it properly and repaint/vinyl wrap the roof for it to look good, a plug might look a little strange. Its definitely doable though. When I had my vr6 I was going to just buy a realllly shoty stubby one from ebay as I wasn't much of a fan of the antenna either, never ended up doing it though (never had the spare like $10 haha). The CL has its antenna in the fender, so its a bit easier to get rid of if I ever feel the need, can just swap on a fender from a vr6 and not have to worry about welding up holes etc

good work on the rad swap.

the easiest thing to do would be to get a stubby antenna for it. Dubaddiction should have some in stock.

as for a permament delete. Well, you have to pull the headlining to get to the other side of it, then welding to shaved the whole, respraying etc. alot of $$ for very little reward. (if you were having a respray for some reason, then that's another matter.)

Yeah a stubby antenna is probably the go. Haha now the rad swap is done and holding pressure, the crack pipe is leaking out where it connects to the water pump... I decided to just order a waterpipe kit off ECS with gruvenparts aluminium crack pipe, thermostat housing, thermostat, o-rings etc. Not really sure what I'm going to do because I managed to cross-thread a couple of the screws that secure the bumper and cannot get them back off for the life of me

Plenty more fun to be had. Also Jarred check your facebook messages!

I have a stubby antenna, just have a look through my crap, I'm pretty sure there's a couple of pics.
I got mine from ecs cause I wanted that adapter screw thing.

Huh I got lucky with my vr, the last service done before I got it was $2000 ! The entire Cooling system was replaced, except the water pump.

Thanks mate, I don't know, I kind of like being able to squirt people who tailgate me! I might just paint that bit that sticks out, we'll see.

Anyway had an awesome weekend at GAD, it was great to meet everyone. Had a pretty nuts week sorting everything out, had to do the wheels, polishing up the lip took ages probably because my paint stripper was kind of crap so I ended up sanding most of the base coat off, finished up detailing at 5-530pm on Friday and went straight up to Canberra.

Anyway I toyed with the idea of stretching some tires on these wheels and spacing them out to make them flush but most people I suggested that to said it'd look bad with 15s. Anyway not sure what I'll do next. Looking forward to catching up with all the Melbourne guys again soon.
