8k for a mk3? I would be looking along the lines of a vr6. you should get a pretty awesome early model for that much...
things to look out for would most definately be the power window regulators and the clutch if it is past or close to 200,000kms. Also the aircon. make sure it works - especially in brisvegas. It can be expensive to fix ($1200+)
Back on topic, don't be too fooled by that shiny pic fellas... he has just sprayed it with water (look at the drips underneath and around it on the ground - oldest trick in the online selling book)
In saying that though, I would most definitely be buying it because of the 7L washer bottle [/sarcasm] lol
You've really got to weigh up the positives/negatives when buying a golf. If it is going for $4k then I'd recommend getting an RTA/state roads inspection done on it.
Tell the technician the regular problems that golfs have and get him to do a thorough check over it. should set you back about $200 but it means that you will know exactly what needs to be done after you buy it. You can also use whatever the mechanic finds as a bargaining tool to bring the price down even further (I saved myself $800 on mine this way).
That seller is either really desperate, really honest (i.e. it may have lots of problems) or really stupid
