Hi everyone, my mechanic has just had a good look at the front of my Mk3 Tdi as I have observed the steering getting heavier, and he has told me the steering rack needs replacement/reconditioning. Anyone got any recommendations as to reconditioners (if it is possible) or places to get a new one? Do I have to go to the dealer?

Thanks Loon, I am just trying to make sure the rack is the problem not the pump! I put in an online request for a new rack from Bryan Byrt and they have come back and quote God I hope you are sitting down for this $1378.05 for a Rack Assembly, and $455 for something called a steering core - total $2016.35 inc GST.
