Would it be possible to some how mount a pod filter in original air box to use as heat sheild ? Or am I totally off the track ?

Apart from the sound of pots, in terms of effectiveness, straight pot with heat shield vs panel... similar?

A pod has a much bigger surface so naturally its going to suck in more air. The problem is its factors:

• Hot air

• Is it worth it

You also have to look at the fact that if you mount it low where your emmisions canister use to be, there is the chance when it rains that you are going to suck in water and thats a n:

My original setup was a pod sitting in the bottom half of the air box and it fit in that, don't think I have any pics but I will have a look.

Mine has a half heat shield and that seems to do the trick.

I have my pod mounted there, and the water issue is really only if you can manage to submerge it. As K&N filters are oiled they generally repell water.

The thing you really have to worry about is how dirty they get down there. I clean mine once every month and a half and it will turn a bucket of water black nota problem.

I got myself a BMC CDA induction kit for the VR6 of ebay. Paid $250 fot it. Its second hand, the pervious owner claimed he only had it for 2000 km. Just cleaned the filter then and Its looks brand new .
Havnt put it on the car yet.

The vr6 has got a pod on it at the moment and it does sound sweet. Sounds especially sweet when u turn the car off and it continues to suck a little of air. lol SAAWEEET!!!!

Shop around dude. you will find a bargain.

I bought my CDA second hand from a bloke at autobarn, before i even picked up the car! I noticed a increase in power, an increase in noise (HUGE increase), and an increase in response. and it looks oh-so sexy in the engine bay.....

Heres a pic of my setup. Put it all together on the weekend. I cant feed the induction pipe anywhere except between the headlight and gaurd. Still reckon I would get a bit of air but i would like to connect it straight to my airduct on my bumper.

Anyway it looks hot .
fabricated bracket to hold it up, not rumbing against anything.

im not really sure. its kinda hard to explain what inside the box looks likes. its nothing flash or technical. Simple but effective.

Guys with BMC <-- is the brand, and CDA what does it stands for anyways??
could you guys tell me how much did you pay for this set up. new/ 2nd hand. I limit myself only to approx $100 to play with air filters. Probably out of my budget anyway.

BMC is the brand. CDA stands for Carbon Dynamic Airbox. There are different types of BMC CDA for different types of engines. The one for a VR6 is BMC CDA CDA85-150. This type is recommended by BMC for the VR6 and is disgned for engines 1600cc and over.

I always like the CDA's so I went to autobahn and they quoted me $650!!!!

you are looking around $200+ for an induction kit no matter what brand it is

its basically a pod filter in a canister.

I'll check and see what different brands I can get and what prices next time I'm working.

from memory they are:
Autotechnica (crappy filter but I'm sure you could fit a good pod in there)
BMC (What do i need to say, recommended upgrade to just about every single car bar most exotics ie. Lamborghini(All), Ferrari Enzo, Porka Carerra GT etc.)
Drift (surprisingly good quality, probably the best value on the market)
Finer Filter (overpriced and still a foam filter)
K&N (About the same price as the BMC)
SAAS (Sits between the Autotechnica and the Drift ones)

I wonder why I hear more about K&N than BMC though? I think most people are more familiar with the brand K&N when the term "air filter" comes up in their head. Does BMC make any panel filters for direct replacement on our cars?

Cause K&N are everywhere, when do you hear about BMC besides euro cars or anything like that

K&N are for everything really, advertisement is everywhere I know that, even at WSID they have the K&N Lane
