  • Coolant hose and oil breather questions

    Sorry about the big pics....

Where's the best place for this hose? Is the dealership going to be expensive?

And my crank vent seems to weep alot

Excess blowby maybe? Should I do a compression test or is this fairly normal?

Yes. The dealer will charge heaps for the hose. If it is just leaking at the point where the small pipe joins the large pipe ie pictured you don't necessarily need to buy the whole pipe. I have a mate at a radiator shop who made up an aluminium section to replace that whole joint while keeping the rest of the hose(s). I think he charged me less than $10.00.

i dont think that Y adaptor will fit there will it? I just raced out to the car to check cuase mines ****ed too (my own fault) but the hose is a different size to the one that that thing is for I'm fairly sure.

oh and i think its pretty normal for the breather to get pretty oily.

Hey dude, tried to pm you but your storage quota is full lol.
Its a 95 VR6 obd1. The hose goes from the heater core to the block just above the exhaust mani and the smaller hose runs to the top of the throttle body.

i have seen this piece blocked off and bypassed on some VR's.... looking at mine i can only guess its some kind of throttle body warmer for cold climates ???

if the stealership is really expensive maybe get a quote for a custom made hose from Pirtek or ENZED ?

yeah i dont think the heater thing on the throttle body is really needed over here, i have it bypassed now, just connected back up to the coolant bubble thing. If theres no real reason coolant has to go from that heater hose into the reservoir it would tidy it up even more if i could block it off at both ends instead of having a hose go between the too.

Thats hose is $50 on gap, so im assuming the dealer would want hundreds.

I wasn't sure as I'm the last to admit I know every engine backwards, I checked 42DD and googled the heck out of images, but had no luck. Thought I'd put it up anyhow just in case at the risk of sounding dumb. This adaptor measures 32mm or inch and a quarter, so it's main radiator hose size, not a smaller heater hose. Oh well!
