  • Rear Suspension Photo - Is That Normal?

Experts/Amateurs/All, take a look at the photo Is that correct for a bumpstop?
    Its a Mk3 GL 2.0L 1997
How could the rubber mounts be "rusting"?

Are you sure it is not just orange rubber? When they are new they are a yellowy orange colour and as they age they get more orange. These are a much overlooked part that needs to be replaced as they are more than just a bump stop. They are an integral part of how the suspension works.

Yes, looks like the bumpstop has been cut off... both side are like that... Would they be easy to repalce??? I've heard you need a special tool on top to remove the top suspension bit... I assume it wouldn't be worth re using the rubber mounts, so those should be replaced also?. I thing the bush/bearing may have rusted out also (accounts for the rust)
        Cheers h100vw....

          Cheers Bora Sport
No i think its definately rust, maybe the bearing/bush has rusted out.... sort of make sense, if the bump stop is not there to protect it from water splash up... Might try some of those snap in mounts for the meantime till i can change them out properly...
