  • thule fairing question

Just wondering if the current line of Thule fairings can be used without the rubber/plastic end pieces to create more of a 555 look? If so, what width fairing would I need to buy for the same look as a 555? 872XT 112cm?

Example of width I am wanting:

Has anyone done this? If so, pics?

    Thanks in advance.

You'll need the 871. I've never tried removing the end pieces but I reckon the 871 looks better than the 555 - the 555 looks too tall.

I have noticed there is 4 widths in the 871 fairing.

82, 97, 112 and 133cm. Fore people on here which is best for a Mk3?

The different widths were given different model numbers. 871 is 38", 872 is 44", and 873 is 52". 38" would be... the 97cm one!

            thanks for the replies guys.

rayray, could I possibly bother you to check if they are removable? If so, could you please take a quick picture for me without them?

My thoughts are that if the 871 is 38" including the plastic end pieces, the 872 should be about the same width without the plastic bits. It would make it look like more of a 555 which I think suits the age/look of mk3's better.

            Thanks again

They're riveted in, so not easy to take off and put back on again! If you take the end pieces off, the fairing will take on a more rectangular look, not angled down in a trapezoidal shape like the 555.

Ohh ok I didn't realise how they were attached. Looks like its going to be an 871 for me after all.

Thanks for clearing it up for me

They're hard to find but there are some second-hand 555 fairings kicking about. Try US eBay and VWVortex.
