  • 2 unrelated questions - wheels and seals

    Hey guys.

First question - has anyone renewed the door seals on their mk3 - if so, did you get them from the dealer or somewhere else?

    Second question -

I'm fixing up my speedline 16x7.5 wheels, which have been sitting in the shed for a while. After getting them straightened I will be repainting them.

I'm at a loss about what colour to do them - there seems to be a lot of different silvers around these days, but whatever colour I want it to look fairly euro and not too lairy. Black seems to be a difficult colour to match wheels with.

    Some pics of the speedlines:

A friend of my Dad bought some brandnew geniune VW door seals from the UK inclduing postage yes than he coudl buy one in Oz.

So maybe eBay is your place.

I too would stick with a bright silver.

                        ahh well...

I spent last night trauling uk and german ebays and i could only find second hand seals.

anywhere between $10-50$ each, plus postage i guess. But second hand is pointless.

My worst one is the pass rear, then pass front. I thought the hatch seal might be going too because I've had dust entering the luggage compartment - but I've since realised that this is because I have fitted a towbar, which means dust can enter the chassis rail where before it was blocked by the "rear bumper crash absorbers".

PS for anyone interested - not leaking water into the car, even in heavy rain. But I can HEAR that the seal is bad, at freeway speeds it sounds a bit like the window isnt all the way up (and they all are ).... and some dust comes in in heavy rain too. I guess that means water could possibly come in under some conditions, but it hasnt yet (not even washing the car).

have you pulled your tail lights off to check the foam seal isnt damaged
iv had a small water leak for a while now and also dust gets in
yesterday i pulled mine off to discover both sides were ripped
probably because iv had my rear end repaired, you can see where they tried to glue it back together

Thanks sparkie (your post looks like spam though, haha)

I often steer clear of Clark Rubebr as they are brutally expensive I have found.

However, I have yet to check my favorite shop, ovesco, who do a lot of automotive pinchweld seals. They might have it.
