transmission golf mk3

just interested in a mk 3 golf 2l auto , the lady says there is a transmission problem !! she tells me when she starts the car it takes a while to find drive gear !!! when selected from park !
i heard its commen in mk3 gearboxes but would this need a rebuild or just a flush and good trans oil ???? cheers , its done just over 100000 klm !
