  • 2.0slow oil breather hose where??

Austral vw want $150 for the breather hose that runs from the air inlet pipe and the rocker cover to the the bottom on the block at the front. I do not believe this is a fair price. What can be done, mine broke in about 2000 pieces.
Appreciate anyones input, mine was a 1 piece unit, I believe they are sold in two pieces now? My ETKA is busted sorry..

BFI sells an adapter that plugs onto the block breather. I've routed this into a catch can and blocked off the PCV valve on the rocker cover as well as on the intake tube.

Hey Ray, why did u do that? what is the theory behind it?
I must say getting this mk3 up to scratch has been a pleasure, taking my time looking for bargains n stuff. In fact I'm enjoying this whole thing so much I'm taking a 3mth break from looking for another car.

I should prolly start another thread but what the hell, it needs....

*hottuning coilovers (cheap blue ones me thinks)
            *a sump gasket
*a headlining and some handles and visors, the old ones got lost?
            *rear wiper delete
*front and rear bumpers resprayed, i will smooth the front one first..
*vr6 seats are looking a little threadbare, maybe i will do something about that.
*the tailgate has a little dent in it, if i can find a white one i will prolly get it.
*get one of those short throw kits from Tim. I hope that fixes my box full of 3rds problem.
            *badgeless grille.

windows all work (touch wood0, aircon is cold, pushbutton start still works, rims are still okay, angle eyes still suck, rear muffler still deleted, black badges are still on there and if I keep decent fuel in it the car is still really quite nice to drive.

The PCV system is in place to relieve pressure build-up within the engine crankcase. The stock system on our engines route from the front of the block to the rocker cover, which in turn vents the pressure out to the intake (back into the engine and out through the exhaust). I've kinda bypassed that by attaching an adapter on the front of the block that vents the pressure out into an oil catch can which vents out to the atmosphere (not legal). Proper thing to do is to route the oil catch can back into the intake system.

I've replaced the breather hose twice over about 30,000km, and it also made a huge mess of the engine bay, and I also found a decent amount of oil in the intake tube when I first took it off. Now it doesn't make a mess Just hope a copper doesn't ask me to pop the bonnet haha.

I had this same problem with my old Mk3; split hose in a few places and I tried to just tape it up for a while. I ended up being a sucker enough to just cough up the 150 odd though.

Good to see you're back in a Mk3 BTW. I look forward to seeing your progress with it.

I agree that the 150 is extortion. I actually imported a batch of them last year and you guys can have em for $80, delivered, or fitted if you come here

I made one out of 1/2 inch copper tube and plumbing elbows. Painted it black and all's good. You can hardly tell the difference. It's been there 12 months now and not a problem.

Bump I am about to do this.

The black plastic square box on top of the engine that the breather hose feeds into, how does it come off?

Other than the obvious one or two bolts, I don't want to break it since it is brittle. Maybe just pull the thing off, but I might be missing something, thanks.
