  • Wheel help needed !

Hi guys ! i know this topic has been talked about a million times ..
I just found a really nice set of 17"x7" wheels
i tried them on .. they were touching the front suspension .. what do you guys rekon i should do ?? is spacers the way to go ? or should I look for something smaller for my MK3 CL ??

    Thanks a lot for reading

sounds like spacres are the way to go, unless you have some crazy camber going on up front (when i put in my coilovers I didnt set it right and the stock wheels where rubbing for a bit)

Theyre pretty cool looking wheels. If your spacing the front out a bit youll probably want even bigger spacers on the back to keep the stance nice

Are they generic one size fits all? if so id pass.
You will also most likely need longer bolts if you are going to use spacers so maybe try and pick up a set, always seem cheaper to me...

I've been looking at the the ones that you can bolt on to your wheel .. that's good, yeah ??

That's the thing .. I dont know and neither does the owner .. he got them off his Mazda MX5 .. by the looks of it .. if i run spacers there will be a little bit of poke . . what do you think ?

And for the record .. the wheels do clear the calipers without spacers ..

If they're touching the suspension and their 7" wide, then some ~10mm spacers shouldn't have them poking out.

If you buy slip on spacers, make sure you get longer bolts with them as well (if you get 10mm spacers, get bolts that are 10mm longer than stock etc.). When buying longer bolts, check the seat surface of the wheels - it'll either be conical or ball seat. Make sure you buy the correct ones. Spend a little extra and get some custom spacers made up if you can so that their hub-centric and wheel-centric too (or get some hub-centric rings).

What size tyres are they anyway?

the tyres are 215/40/17 .. i'll be changing them to 215/30/17 maybe ? or may be something thinner so that i could have some nice stretch ..

You wont get much stretch with a 7" wide wheels unless you go to something like a 185/35/17

If you get the 10mm spacers the rim probably wont be in a position where you need to stretch tyres, it will just look off.
If you space them to push them all the way out, then by all means.

Grab a wheel offset calculator (google) and plug in different specs (ET of wheel - size of spacer will give final ET).
Use a ruler and see what size spacers will give the look you want.
It's a guide only, but will give you an idea of the difference between where they will sit with a 5mm spacer to clear the shocks and a 25mm spacer with potential poke.

Hey guys . . i used 8mm spacers for the front and the back .. they fit beautifuly .. it's just that my steering wheel shakes a lot when im doing over 60 km/h .. is it just a wheel alignment/balance issue ? or is it something else ?
