    Afternoon all,
well after quite a few months of searching we have finally purchased our own slice of German engineering,a 96 GL.
I have been using this site for intelligence gathering and I could feel the addiction growing every time I viewed.
But now that we have one in the driveway (less than a week) I feel this addiction growing even stronger and faster!!!

    Ross.

P.S. It was actually my wife who insisted we get a golf. (thats twice she's shown good taste)

Good job mate, too bad you resisted the urge to get a VR6, Oh well, its sumthing to dream about.........

      sciencevr6,
Don't worry there was one on the market but it did not fit the wifes criteria,
had to be auto, had to be fuel efficient.
I did tell her that the 2.8 V6 had better fuel economy than our tarago but she just wouldn'y buy it. (and it probably would have!!)

        Welcome aboard Ross,

I bought a GL mk III new Jan 95 and after 2 years traded for a used VR6. I found that the VR6 didn't do anything better for me than the GL. We traded it for the Green T4 6 months later.

Last year we bought a CL Automatic as the run around car. I enjoy driving this one the best of the Mk III Golves I've owned.

        Maris

PS..I see you're not far from the TRAKKA factory, where the Green T4 spent a bit of time.

G'day mate, welcome to the forums! They are a fun little car. Lovin' mine, though I get my fair share of troubles with it. Put up some pictures!

            Thanks guys,
I will put up some photos in the next few weeks, but basically its a standard black number with VW dress covers over the steelies.
It does need some work (to be done by me) but it is straight and has good boby/paint work, (and boy didn't we see some shockers).
All in all with some TLC and a few dollars on essentials, and some extras,
should be a nice little car.

Maris, Yes, Trakka do turn out some nice units and have done for a long time must be doing it right.

            Ross.

                hey Ross.

Welcome, enojoying your slice of german engineering ? Bet you are... talk about addiction and addmiration, I would walk pass my garage to study room, with out fail giving her a wink and say" how you doing" and gently slide my finger tips across the bonet.

                  Louis,
Its a bit like that. Early days yet but already looking at cosmetic changes.
But must do the essentials first, oil changes, brakes, etc, then I can start on her looks.

                  Ross.

I know what you meanthe essentials are essential !!! I remember the day after I got her, woke up 7 am had breakfast, started polishing/ cleaning interior and exterior until 5 in the afternoon. I suffered severe back pain for days but it was worth it. booked in for mechanic, fixed problems, DIY here and there, 5 months later I am still not fully done. I still have 2 broken window regulators and glass held up by stick tape, it's never ending. my point is take it easy and enjoy.
