  • JOM Coilovers for MK3 GL - anyone using or have info on

    Anyone had any experience or have converted and are using the JOM Coilovers (either the Blue or Red)

    Cant find much info on them expect this from the UK:

    Red(£279.60)
    Venom Motorsport Performance Car Parts - EBC Brakes, Black Diamond Brakes, FK Suspension, Eibach Suspension, Weitec Suspension, Supersport Suspension

    Blue (£167.40)

    These are pretty much the same as HotTuning coilovers which we have sold plenty of sets of and are a great budget coilover.
    Have a search on here and you will see plenty about them.

        do the front and rear strut top mounts and bearings usually come with coilovers, for example, like these: JOM Suspension Coilover VW Golf Jetta 3 MK3 adjustable - eBay (item 290465064290 end time Dec-15-10 13:41:39 PST)

        if not, what are they for? are they required?

          That wont come with the mounts and bearings, although you could get them pretty cheaply from here MK3 VR6 Front upper strut mounts and bearings (set of 2) - $59.95 : Dub Ad·dic·tion [duhb uh-dik-shuhn]

          Chances are the old ones are already shot from being quite old, or soon will be when you change to a much stiffer suspension. I don't think you have to change them when you put coilovers in (I didn't, but then realised later that I actually had too, so had to take the fronts out, get new mounts and put them back in again) but it is recommended.

            Usually no, you'll have to buy them separately.

            The mounts are there as a damper and as a contact point where the struts connect to the chassis. The standard items are made of rubber. They're used to soften the ride and reduce any unwanted noise in the suspension (imagine the clanking and the stiffness if there were no mounts or the mounts were metal). There are a wear item and as they age, they become more compressed and not be very effective (and produce unwanted sounds, ironically). It's best to change out the mounts for new ones everytime you change your struts. They're not very expensive and saves you from having to rip out the suspension again and change them if they start to fail. Most old mounts fail within months (even weeks) of installing coilovers because of the added harshness, and they could be heard as knocking sounds over bumps on roads.

                JoM Suspension

                Not related to coilovers, But i have ordered and installed a set of JOM shocks and springs for my Vento GL 95.

                Thoughts: (front non adjustable ~40mm, rear adjustable springs, replaced mounts and bumps at same time).

                Dramatically improved handling and general response (camber out however, so still need to fine tune). At first was just too nasty and low (ripped off the crossmember at steel hump at car wash, hmm), however after running the rears at maximum adjustment, now rides at reasonable height. I have two small kids in car, with the ride fine for naps etc (ie not bothered more than the marshmellow stock gear).

                No change in shock/spring behaviour in 4 months.

                wheels : 14x6, pirelli p600 non sport tyres

                Source: ebay, a shop in UK. About 240$, four corners, Including shipping, springs and struts.

                Opinion: Awesome price, transformed handling, if its not a track car (ie i have towbar, 2L , Auto box) then can be a no fuss option


                (also, I had previously replaced fronts with M*roes with standard springs, did 40K on them, went soft, bad ride, and they were absolute garbage bits of expensive crap)

                  I've got JOM's on my VR6.
                  They ride very well (when not 100% slammed) and the car handles really well. Can't complain at all baout them.

                  By all accounts the JOM's are a bit softer than the HotTuning's if that helps your decision.

                  I'd support Lorenz/Tim and get my gear through them second time round though, they will help you out.
