  • Problems with Fuel Pump? How do I tell?

Following on from a previous thread, I think I've isolated a non-start problem to the fuel pump, but now need help on where to go to from here. Following checks/ symptoms :

    pump fuse- OK
    relay - replaced
no noise coming from pump (should this be reasonably loud and when should i hear it?)
    car turns over

Can someone please advise what i should do from here to determine if the non-supply of fuel is the problem?

    Thanks!

Under the back seat, there is a metal plate with 3 screws remove these and you will see the pump.

The connector has 4 wires into it. The two fat ones are for power, the two thin ones are for the gauge.

Put 12v to the power terminals and if you hear the pump, try and start the car.
If it now starts, you have some wiring issue between the fusebox and the pump.

If the pump makes no noise, thats the problem.

I have brand new pumps in stock if you are in need.

Thanks - I've now discovered that there is also no spark. Any thoughts about what to check next?

Pump wont run unless car is running.

I`d start by changing the coil.

New one is a better opition I believe. Can you take the centre lead off from the dissy and put it near the metal of the engine.
Try and start the car and see if you get sparks from the lead.
If not, then yes remove the coil and call me at work if you want.
