The DIY method is both dangerous and illegal.
I expereinced this yesterday when the person in front failed to indicate and hit the brakes for their turn.
They are also impossible to see in the rain.
I will know by tomorrow, as i'm not at the panel beaters today (putting the gearbox back in the cup car at the workshop). I'll let you know asap. I do know that it will probably be the paint that is the most expensive thing, but also if it is something like a door handle that can be complex to "sand back" there would be a cost there as well, a suggestion would be to remove everything yourself and prep it all yourself, its really not hard at all.

They are fine. They are actually not as black as they look, in the picture. As for in the rain, alot of tail lights you cant see in the rain, the best lights for the rain are LED lights. And I don't think the police should "target" smoked tail lights, rather they should target people with head or tail lights that are out or missing first.

Enjoy using that as an excuse when you are in an accident or pulled up by the police.
I thought you could actually get led blackout tails for the mk3 from memory so i would have gone that route.
Car looks clean now with the rear wiper deleted.

Have to agree with you, but also disagree, they look allright but the police can get you on the smallest things.
A girl in our area we live in had her car unroadworthied (and fined too) because her parking lights where too bright..... go figure.

How are you going to go about lowering it? Coilovers? or something easier on the wallet & a bit nicer for the daily drive?
Actually .. i got coilovers .. they can be bumpy in the first week .. but once the springs set in .. boy you're in for a hell of a ride .. preformance is crazy .. doing roundabouts at 60 Km/H !! i think it's money well spent ! .. if you go about it with springs .. you're only going to shorten the life of your shocks ..
