  • im gunna get screwed

yeah well it looks like my timing chain on my VR6 has let go and caused some major damage....only had the rocker covers off at this stage and the chain is loose but not sure about any valve damage as of yet...

so im looking at gathering the required parts but where should i go to them?

id also like to update to the later setup mines got the earlier doulble row stuff - is this posible...

im in melb but dont mind if i have to ship them from interstate...

can anyone point me in the right direction?

        heres my quote from VW....

        chains $242 + $106
        tensioners $85 + $85 + $83
        guide $15 + $38
        sprockets $79 + $97

not sure if hes given me too many prices on the guides and tensioners

oh yeah those prices dont include GST

Call imparts for prices too, i recall the prices they gave me being much better than that.

Labour is the killer when changing chains. it is cheaper in most cases to just change the motor!

Doing the timing chain won't cost more than about $800 might aswell give it a quick going over.

                        110,000km.....thats pretty bad eh!!!

not that i really know much about these engines but i think the chain itself is/was ok - just a lack of tensioner maintenance....
