    Hey fellas.
how we all doin for a fine monday night?

i was just wondering what size wheels you all have and what you would reccommend... (and also what's legal) - i've got a 97 mk3 CL (1.8L)...

i'm lookin at getting some 17"s (as in i've put a deposit on them) but i'm thinking it might be a bit rough...

    any tips much appreciated....

17's are quite popular with the Mk3, though 17" would be the max in my books. I've got a set of 15's on mine at the moment and they look great. 14"-17" seems to be the norm. I don't think there are any rolling on 18's in Australia, and for good reason.

I think 15's and 16's are perfect for the Mk3. Personally, the width matters more

i got 17's on my 2L, im thinking that 1.8 would be better off on a smaller diameter
        17' look hot tho

These 16's are light as (7.5KG) so wouldn't hinder the performance

Depends the condition of the rims, maybe $500

                    GO THE STOCK STEELIES ...

... Mine just refuse to get off my car (check my sig), I just like the look too much (guess I'm sad and old school LOL)

However... If you must change it up a bit, I agree with Golf Kart, 16x7's FTW... You will be shaking teeth loose with 17's or 18's, not to mention shaking your car to pieces, that's just IMO...

I think there is ONE black VR6 running around with 18's, it's SDW1 on the forum...

                    That car is sexxxxxxx.....

Here are some Mk3 rim threads you can refer to if you need...

Hi guys! Im getting ma brakes soonz and need to make a descition on ma rims asap! Before you red any further, please excuse the dodgy chopping!!! I've been wanting light weight rims and I've found these forged Motegi RO_JA LT rims in a 17x8. Perfect. . . They weigh only 6.3kg each! Watchya think . . .

Hi guys, Not planning to buy any as of yet, but just want to know so I can come back to it when I do. What kind of info would I need when going about buying aftermarket rims? E.g. offsets, ideal diameter, rim width (how wide can I go to get it looking snug), bolt pattern etc.?

There is a lot of valuable information, especially in the second link (which is more relevant to your car...)

                    Enjoy!!!
                    JHN

That hardly looks 18"! Maybe the lip makes it look a tad smaller. Is he running on coilovers? The lowering looks perfect.

                        This pic: a Mk3 Golf on 18" Mk4 R32 Aristos - they look MASSIVE.

And I'll just whore out my wheels - 15" pride

or you could just get some 22's and get some "fully-sick" neg. camber happenin at the back
