  • Replacing Standard Speakers 95 Golf

    Hi there,
I am wanting to replace the standard speakers in the Golf, but don't know how to get the other ones out? If anyone has any tips it would be a great help

Just get a flat blade screw driver, there should be a little tab at the bottom of each speaker pod and using that u can push the covers off. Then its a matter of unscrewing the speakers using a philips head. The tweeters in the dash can be hacked at by simply popping off the cover.

The original speakers have a plastic loom on the end, you'll have to cut the wires and crimp/solder on female tab connectors which is what u use to connect aftermarket speakers to. And yeah the stock speakers are crappy, ive got rockford splits in the front and xplods in the rear.

      Yep, basically what peedman said.

Just a thing I might add: the factory standard tweeters are mounted on their own plastic holders so if you're planning to replace the factory splits with aftermarket splits, you'll need to fabricate your own mounts to hold the tweeter in the same position. I had my splits installed by the folks I got them from. I'll take a snap of what mine looks like just to give you an idea.

Alternatively, you can just fit 2-way/3-way speakers and scrap that tweeter idea.

we did DUBINGS system for his vr6.
for the tweeters, mount them behind the side mirror panel. remove the panel and drill a small hole so that the speaker wires go through. the tweeter can be mounted with abit of superglue or silicon. works well

no point puting the new tweeters at factory location they point upwards.

we found that focal speakers are a direct fit for sum reason, all screws and mounts go in like a factory speaker.

I checked the rear doors for speakers on my VR6 but there is none, it looks like there never was. Did Vr6s come with rear door speakers?

Yes they did mine does some do, I think the earlier ones don't as my old vr6 didn't.

Mine now have a pioneer system, tweeters and 6.5" ones.

I think rear speakers was a factory option. When I take my speaker covers out of my rear doors, there's nothing. No speakers, no wires, nothing. Pedro's had them in his though, and we're both running older generation Mk3's.

If you wanted to put speakers in, where would you feed the speaker cable?

Mine had speakers installed and i have to say whoever installed them (probably the dealership based on the delivery docos) did a crap job!

6.5" speakers fit 100%, i have 6" Polk speakers with spacers to make them fit properly.

mine had the rear speakers fitted.
they where 5 1/4" in the rear, but a 6.5" goes in the hole.
                              the fronts are a 6.5"

If anyone cares to have a look, i discovered some 3x5" cut out lines in the plastic suports for the parcel shelf. they are on the under side. Did any golf come with these?

And didnt the base models have just the 4" speakers in the dash?
