Early model 2e ADY is digifrant.
Late model 2e AGG is hotwire.
Am I correct?
SEATs used the 2E in later model cars as they were simply handballed VW's remaining stock - as tends to happen with most things.
Ultimately, the only thing to consider is that AGGs will probably have lower mileage and the later injection system made for a better idle and smoother running. It's relatively easy to bypass the immobiliser if you want to run the system properly with EFI in a Mk1.

Can I ask where you have found to be the best info source for the 2E engine?
I have a 2E Digi 2 in my MK2 and it looks to be factory with the way its set up (even has the immobiliser system, that has been disconnected/switched off though).
It seems to be a really hard engine to find information on.MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*
