  • blipping no good with 2.0

Cant find thread about this problem, but please direct me if it exists.

With the 2.0, when I lightly blip the throttle, the first response is a dip in revs, sometimes down to 500 RPM. it lasts for probably less than a second, and then the revs will rise before returning to idle.

Gently pressing the accelerator leads to a steady increase in revs, no dip

Give the gas pedal a good whack, and there will be a slight hesitation and a sort of gulp, before the revs whiz up.

    Is this normal?

well its not a formula 1 engine haha. i dunno bout the golf 2.0L but from experience from ma race car it could mean ur timing is a little out if its really bad

i normally do it a little bit while driving, and it goes fine. but i do find when stationary, the revs, when blipped, do dip down a little bit then rise up again, like you said. it used to be worse for me, but after i got a new timing belt and the timing done nicely, it was alot nicer, and used less fuel

What octane fuel are you using?

            Thanks for the suggestions

No joy in the cam belt, just had that done and no change.

Fuel is usually 98 octane, although i have been trying some of the bp 95 octane recently. (problem has been consistent for probably as long as i have had the car)

spark plugs, well they would be old (car had been 25K with out a service before i bought it!!) but the motor will hit the rev limiter with out issue??

I am struggling to describe the problem really and dont have much experience with petrol motors.

it is like with a carby'd engine when it is cold, and you blip the throttle without enough choke, they sort of die a little before picking up the revs.. it feels just like that, except that it is obviously fuel injected, and will do it when completely warmed up

            cheers

well if the problem is the spark plugs you wouldnt have problems reving up high, i had problems under load reving from 1500 to 2500 maybe, above that it would be fine
i suggest getting them out, cleaning them and checking the spacing, and re-try the same before spending $70-ish for a god set of 4

              good luck!

                Check the Throttle body

I would suggest u clean ur throttle body. the mkIII can have problems with this. if that doesn't work take it someone with a vag com and perform a basic settings, this may help. If the problem still exsists, put up with it until it gets worse then u may need to change ur throttle body. A second hand unit may only be a couple of hundred.

Quite possibly be the spark plugs and the leads.

Change them you get a instant result, feel the difference straight away.

hey i have the exact problem, if i slowly go on the accl its fine, but if i press on it hard the car hesitates n revs cut..

thorttle body cleaning should fix it
