  • CV's on Mk3 2.0

    Hey guys,

Im getting clunking out of my CV's when reversing out of car parks etc. Tell tale signs CV's are on the way out. Now do I need whole new shafts/shaft or will I just need an Outer CV kit?

I get no wobbles at speed or anything, only these clunks every now and again.

Have you driven round in circles in both directions with full lock applied? Backing out of a space in a carpark isn't the right test to go off. It is much more likely that the clunk is the brake pads moving about in the calipers.

I'd make sure that the hub nut is tight too, that's a 30mm socket and 2 foot bar job.

You can buy CV's on their own no need to do the whole thing.

Also could be worn reverse gear, very common on Mk3s.
Not a drama if you dont go flat out backwards.
Like Gavin says go round in circles on full lock to see if you get any clicks.

I hate full lock just for the fact that it whines just as I hit full lock lol!, back it off a bit and its fine, not sure if its related.

I just changed an inner drivers side because of a split boot, and found some serious pitting. A bit of a job but doable. Follow the book and ask questions.
