  • VR6 Gearbox Troubles

    Hey Guys,

Having some issues with my gearbox. Today, I wound out first and second, and I think I may have hit 2nd a little too hard.

Anyway, so now my gears are all over the place. In the reverse position, the car is in third gear. First and second don't seem to be in place. 3rd 4th 5th work fine.

Is it more likely to be a problem with the linkages rather than the gearbox itself?

sounds like a linkge problem. Check at the ends of the cables that nothing is broken or come loose/shifted perhaps.

There is a plastic L shaped part called a gearshift finger that could well be the culprit.

Had it check out, there indeed seems to be some worn bushes.

However, even when manually moved; the mech still can't get the car into Reverse

Any ideas, or am I truly screwed this time?

do you know if he has re-adjusted the linkage so that 3rd is where 3rd should be?
Thats the best place to start because if 3rd isnt located centrally and the cables are still connected to the linkage then of course you wont be able to hit reverse.
