  • Are the springs in a VR6 different to those of a CL?

The reason I ask is I have a set of Spax lowering springs that came with my VR6 that didn't fit (well the fronts didn't, but the backs did).
I'm hoping that the front springs from a VR6 will be different to those of a CL or other variant of MK3 because I want to sell them. If they are the same - well I have set of springs, but have no idea what they fit...
    Can someone please help me?
I'm going to the pub... I may be some time...

It mightn't have fit because of the front strut mounts maybe? Not too sure on this, but I know the earlier models (1994) had different front strut mounts to the rest of them (earlier models had these really fat mounts that used a slotted nut, whereas later models were smaller in size and used a regular nut), and this may have necessitated different parts.
    Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

My VR is a 1994 model... How can I describe what happened... The front springs wound themselves down around the outside of the seat they were supposed to sit in - if you can understand that...

Ok front my observations (Pulling apart things)

VR6 springs (All years) are thicker diameter than CL/Gl (All years).

Mk3 springs have coloured strips on them. The colours represent car type 6/4 cylinder or diesel.

94-96 strup tops are different to 97 strut tops. I think there are about 3 different variation some strut tops mates (The metal part the spring sits in)

94 and earlier springs are a different fitment to late 94 onwards.

oh my gosh, thanks for all that information! My thoughts are wandering towards the fact I may have lowering springs for a later model mk3 because from my understanding of the info supplied is that the only difference is in the years? I was just thinking the vr6 springs would be thicker because the engine would be heavier? Does this make sense?
