  • Lower glove box

So I have the lower glove box in my car, below the air bag. I have not been able to lock it the whole time I have had my car, is it supposed to lock with the same key that starts the car? Or is there meant to be a separate key that just locks and unlocks the glovebox?

Hmm unless my car didn't have a lower glovebox from the factory and someone installed it later, meaning the lock wouldn't match the ignition key...

        That'd be it.

You'd either need to speak to a locksmith and see if he could get a barrel to match, or change all the barrels in your car to a new key to fit it.

EDIT: Or, ask a locksmith if they can match a key to it and make one up for you?

Well just to explain how I resolved this.

Turned out the set of keys I had to the car - which were given to me by the previous owner - were not the originals. They were a poorly cut copy, the original set must have been lost.

Glovebox was in fact original to the car, the keys actually did fit the lock in the glovebox but were too worn out to open it. Got two new keys cut that operate doors, glovebox, and ignition. Lovely.
