  • The hose going back into the intake should be fine, it's probably legal too (pretty sure the breather isnt). You might want to just give it a wipe down in the intake tube and throttle body every like 10000km or something but shouldnt be a big deal. Have had no problems with the breather though, hasnt made a mess or anything in the engine, you can smell it sometimes though.

I'd say to just leave the hose on there if its alright, no real gains to be had by changing to a breather really other then not making a mess in the intake.

When I feel like fixing it up properly one of these 42 Draft Designs looks pretty nice, but then again I think it pretty much just runs a tube from the PCV into the intake anyway

            • Sorry if you've mentioned it already but what thickness oil are you using?
When I bought the MK2 it had a minor oil leak (1-3 drips per day) and that was on a 10W40 Magnatec.
Put a thicker Nulon 20W50 in and although it didn't fix the leak, I am yet to find an actual drip of oil.
I didn't use thicker oil to stop the leak but just to go by the manual....

              Just a thought

              • They put in magnatec 5W40 when I had it serviced, so yea it has crossed my mind that the thinner (well atleast im presuming this is thinner then what was in there, no idea what was in there previously) oil is why its leaking more then it use too. Would feel like a waste to put in new oil when the stuff in there is only like 400km old :S haha

It doesnt bother me too much, just making a mess of the garage floor. Will have to find some where that sells the 5w40 magnatec and get a bottle before i head out for wherever my friends decide were gonna go, just incase.

On a somewhat related subject, my car decided it would be beneficial to run a lightweight shaved drain plug, so took the initiative

                  • the reciept for the service says magnatec 5W40, but yea I havent seen any around, not that I've been looking hard. Might call up the mechanic and see if it is 5w40 and where I could get some.

                      • You can top up with different viscosity oil I'm sure. It's noted in the service manual. Mixing synthetic and mineral oil, that I'm not sure of.

                        • mixing a little 10W40 magnatec with 5W40 magnatec couldnt be too bad right. Chances are I wont need to top it up for a fair while anyway, and when I do I may consider putting in some new stuff/fixing the leak

its expensive i know but the thinner the oil on start up the better

                            • So in my little coast trip I managed to break the two back window regulators, blow the rear speakers and bring home enough sand to recreate the beach here in toowoomba. Car was the dirtiest it has been during my ownership, cuase it rained the whole way down. Friends also pointed out that the ride is quite bouncy in the back everytime i hit any sort of bump, but was no issue as sunny coast girls seem to love it rough and fast ;P

anyway to make this post not completely pointless, and becuase im a little whore,
