well my fuel gauge is crap so i didnt know if i was really in the danger zone yet or not It reads empty when i have ~15L left, and since im trying to try out a few different petrols dont really like mixing another brand with like 20L of something else, makes comparisons hard.

How hard would fitting a new fuel guage (well not necessarily the guage but the mechanism) be? Might need to look into this.

it likes to dance as im driving, has a mind of its own...

i just rely on the km's thingo, 375 or so km's of vortex 98 and its going to need a drink hah

haha yea i now know a tank of petrol lasts exactly 385km of driving through toowoomba. Which is like 14L/100. Not too bad really. Sure its going to sting much worse when I have to take on brisbane traffic though

Not to bad for a VR6 around town..... better than my oxygen sensor defficient MK2 which averages 15L/100

i have a feeling maybe im not actually fully filling the tank up or something, and that its not the guage which is ****ed. my mfa thing normally averages about 12L/100 for a trip, so if thats accurate i should be getting like another 100km from a tank. Car is actually quite fuel efficient if you keep the revs down. 500km a tank you say... perfect excuse to do some serious engine work?

Mate im lucky if my VR will get 400km's out of tank ??? on a full tank i might be able 2 get around 380km's when the needle gets low and she takes 45lt before she is full again . Not sure if this is similar 2 your VR's ?

sounds about right, Depends alot on traffic ect really. I can give it a footfull at every corner/intersection and have it tell me ive averaged ~10L/100 for the trip if theres noone around, or could take things slow through dense traffic and average 20L/100.

Pretty sure noone really buys a vr6 for fuel economy though

                    • So this afternoon I was like hmm what can I waste a couple hours on for minimal/no gain,

                      this was the result:

Is actually quite a bit smoother then that picture makes it look, The butt dyno doesnt feel much difference, but then again I wasnt expecting one. Might be in my imagination but I think it may sound a tad throatier, and all the plastic that was removed must add up to atleast 20grams, so very much worthwhile haha.

It has come to my attention though that I'm leaking a bit of oil, overnight there will be a couple small puddles, probably only like a few drops big, underneath the car. I thought it may be the sump, but the drops are actually underneath the gearbox. Ive been checking the engine oil level and it seems to be staying the same (although its not like im leaking a noticable amount anyway) but dont know how to check the gearbox oil? Am going to be taking the car some place like 500km away for a week on sunday so would really like to sort this out before leaving for a bit of piece of mind.

Id go jack it up, but putting it on stands with just the widowmaker as a jack takes a fair bit of effort, effort I dont have tonight. If it is actually coming from the gearbox is checking/changing/topping up the oil in it quite easy?

                      • Good to see some work being done! I get 450 out of a tank everytime and it doesn't seem to change wether I'm flogging it or not. The only time It was better was when I drove to Sydney... Got 575 out of one tank

                          • good thing my car loves it rough

Oh just remembered another thing i thought I should note. The new indicator relay I put in seemed to fix my indicator problems for a while, but now sometimes when I have the headlights on, stepping on the brake will make the indicator arrows on the dash illuminate very slightly, and stop/make it that you cant turn on the indicator, until the brake is realeased. Thinking something could be shorting somewhere or a dodgy ground or something, so might also look into this tomorow. If anyones had a similar problem and can shed some light that would be great though

                            • Alright I lied, I found the energy to go jack up the car and have a look. Seems that the oil is just running from the sump, down the shield thing between the gearbox and the sump and dripping off there. Will just pick up a little spare oil for the trip and might try and sort it out properly some other time. Seems to be leaking a little all around the oil pan, guess there could be a gasket or something thats needing replacing?

                              • Mate was just wondering how the filter/breather is going instead of the PCV ? I was thinking of doing mine like that as when i got my car back from the mechanic it was replaced with just a rubber hose ??? and i was never told, i just noticed it gone the other day when cleaning my engine bay . Not sure if this hose is doing any damage being run straight back into the intake ?
