It never bothered me, even on the 6am Hobart trips (200kms)... (but i did turn my stereo up...) I only ever pulled the butterfly shut when the passengers started moaning. Maybe i'm deaf?
When you're feeling a bit seedy it does sting a little though! The whole BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH thing isn't really that cool... Hehehe!
I'm kinda looking forward to having some spare $$$ to put one on my VR - all the money is going to repairs at the moment! The pod is good, but you can only hear it when it hits high revs - which makes me drive less fuel efficiently, because i like the sound
I'm going to the pub... I may be some time...

Not too loud even on highway, although it does backfire, pop and carry on sometimes on deceleration.
This is probably made worse by the fact that my muffler has recently rusted out at either end lol
A custom stainless system or euro?

        How much did you pay?

Ive been considering getting rid of my suitcase and getting either an apexi ECV or a varex system anyone got any input?

Apexi ECV = awesome, easy to fit, but not good for the engine when the butterfly is fully closed, back pressure and major loss of power.
Varex = good, sounds OK and no real loss of power because it bypasses the main flow route through a smaller "secret tunnel" around the side of the muffler (and you get a wicked little keyring that adjusts the volume)

I've had both, I loved the Apexi ECV because you can have whatever sounding exhaust you like and you can turn it off when you need to. I liked the Varex because it was so nifty, but you don't have a choice with the sound, it will sound like a Varex muffler... (which I have no idea what it sounds like on a Golf sorry...)

You might have trouble finding an Apexi ECV because they have been discontinued - but someone else may make them still.

Varex muffler on its own brand new cost us around the $400 mark (cannon shape - I think they do make oval ones now), and the ECV cost me about $200 brand new (so you should be able to find some second hand for cheaps).

          Good luck buddy!

PS - having the suitcase cut out of mine this week because i'm sick of it being so quiet, so i'll let you know how it sounds

yeah I have no suitcase, it does increase the volume quite alot tho but it's a lot of fun.
it was on the car before i bought it, it's just a generic 2.5" system with a lukey muffler.
worth it imo, but make sure it's not really tight as will shake and sound like ****!

But sometimes ya just can't. You know how it is. I'm no hoon but theres times when u just cant get out of that 2-3k rev drone zone. My passengers never seem to complain but it drives me batty.

Am contemplating getting a miltek backbox and tacking it onto the remainder of the magnaflow system. Either that or ditching the lot for a 2.5" again with a borla muffler.
