    Hey gang

Y'all might remember that I got a full 2.25" magnaflow SS system installed around a year ago and didnt really like it. Heaps of cabin drone and the tailpipes stuck out too far. It's also not that great for top end power (although theres more torque then my old 2.5" generic system).

Well, I'm finally sick of it and I have the money for a change.

Since the system has a flange on the muffler, I think I just might get that changed out for something else. Any suggestions?

In my experience, Magnaflow have had less droning exhausts than other branded vr6 exhausts. The only other sound I REALLY enjoy from a vr6 is Dom's one, which has an Oettinger exhaust! Might want to check out what mufflers they've got?

I'd suggest Remus because they sound kinda nice, but imo they drone more than Magnaflows.

Hmm, I love my Magnaflow (just sold) because it was racey and very free-flowing high in the rev range. Just annoyingly loud and droney at 5 in the morning on the way to work, hence the sale. I'm looking for alternatives also, just don't know what to get that's going to do the job, IE, they all seem to be going to drone plenty....

Has anyone tried a variable setup? A Y pipe running a butterfly valve into a dual setup perhaps....would be pricey but.

I tohught about it. Apexi exhaust valve is about 400 bucks. A Varex system (basically x-force crap) with dual round tips was about 550. I'd prefer putting hte magnaflow back on with the massive drone compared to htose 2 options.....

I have an Apexi butterfly silencer in my Polo (you haven't heard drone until you've heard that car...) from memory it cost about $200 and it is really handy, especially on highway trips. Only downfall is you lose power when it's shut. Sits behind the cat (or where the cat should be).
We've also had a Varex system on one of our cars, very nifty with the whole cordless exhaust note controller. But IMO i didn't think it sounded that great.
I'm curious because to find out about exhausts too because i need to get one on my car, i was looking at Remus, but i think i dont know if i'll go that way now...
I'm going to the pub... I may be some time...

Well Erics VR6 with a Remus sounded amazing! Can't remember that really droning...

I know a lot of people go for branded euro systems but has any one thought of going to your local performance exhaust place and going for a mandrel bent stainless system. Im sure there are plenty of good exhaust places that can build a custom system the same if not better than any funky euro zorst brand.

I have one on my GL.
Not too loud even on highway, although it does backfire, pop and carry on sometimes on deceleration.
This is probably made worse by the fact that my muffler has recently rusted out at either end lol

I *love* all the backfire, popping and carry on mine does on overrun. It sounds like its ALIVE!!!

But I'm over the drone. It drives me mad. I was thinking a Borla or TechTonics?

I used to have a 2.5" system with a generic sports muffler that was dead quiet and flowed SO well. Really wish I'd kept it. The fitment sucked and I wanted a better exhaust note. I got both of those with the magnaflow but the drone is just too much.

im interested to hear a bit more about this cos at the moment my vr's got Cat>resonator(stock)>back box. the back box looks CRAP, its got one of those attachable tips that screws on the end too. lame. and the final out pipe is only like 1.8 inches so after all the work ive done to the engine at the start of the year the worthless noname back box it came with is pretty much the only thing holding it back. that and he oil pump but thats another story. sounds pretty wicked form inside but ive been told it doesnt sound too flash outside. whatver. im not outside i guess.

mickey said his magna flow didnt drone too much at all, is that not other peoples experience?

Actually, my sister told me my car was annoying last night because it went ''UUUUUUUHHHHHHH'' lol. I think it depends on how I drive...my car isn't a daily anymore, so naturally I fang it like a nut everywhere which means I don't hear drone. Maybe you've gotta move the revs out of the drone zone Matty?

Be carefull of some exhaust shops, I just changed mine again because of the droning, and the resonator they put on it to quiet it down was like some dodgy thing with only like 1.5" hole through it. Could have damaged my engine with the backpressure. But put a smaller and quieter one on now and it feels and drives so much better!

Drone is always harder on the passenger than the driver...
