  • Busted coolant hose clip thingy - help!

So as not to hijak ScienceVR6s thread, I thought Id start my own. Tonight on the way home, the following part broke:

It seems to be some kind of electric diverter pump associated with the heater. I reckon I only need the plastic part on the bottom as it didn't fail electronically. Anyone got one of these handy???

That is the auxilary pump. Looks like your gonna need to get a new one...

How did it break? its pretty robust plastic?

I guess it just got brittle and broke I wasn't working on the car and hit it, I was driving down the road and noticed steam coming from the engine bay. I reckon I only need the plastic part on the end, not the whole pump. It has a separate part number, though I can't make it out clearly due to the break.....

Thanks for the useful (albeit painful) info Tim. You don't by chance have one lying around?? Volkspower has quoted me $250 fora new one, $100 for a used one. That price is for the whole pump, and the used one comes with both hoses too (but its off a Passat, so the hoses are useless)

Since I had the day off, and very little patience, I got the one from Volkspower.

BlackVR6, thanks for the heads up, will keep them in mind next time something breaks.....

Golf Loon, if only you had posted 6hrs earlier..... Thanks anyway.

How did you know the part was broke??
I think I may have a similar problem
coz my water level seems to be ok but the car seems
to warm up much quicker then it used to.
and i get a bit of a coolant smell in the cabin after a
                    while of driving

If any one could advise what could be the problem
                    it would be greatly appreciated

coolant smell in the cabin is usually the heater matrix starting to leak a lil bit. mine slowly got worse. and started fogging the windscreen. coolant level seemed to go down but only very very slowly.

This is a diifferent problem to me. I knew it was broken coz the car lost ALL its coolant and a matter of minutes and overheated. It didnt take much time to find the broken part. I think Tim's comment re the heater matrix is more likely to be your problem.

Is this a massive problem? and will it get
                            worse to bad very soon?
Is there a solution to this or should I ride it
out till it totaly screws up and then replace the

Ps whats the hell is it?? lol
I've never heard of such a thing

                            thanks

its just the thing in your dash where the hot water from your engine gets paassed thru to give u a heater in the car. mine went very gradually. Never noticed any leakage inthe car other than the windscreen fogging. easy fix is to just buy a 3/4" coupler and join the two heater hoses together in the engine bay. but it means u r without a heater. Its a very big job to replace the matrix. dash has to come out.
