  • Cams for vr6

    Just as the title says,

Looking at cams for the vr6. What is available and what kind of difference would you get, also how much for one?

    Cheers in Advanced fellow dubbers

Have a look at Schrick, Piper and maybe Kent. They will be pricey

u will probly have to look to the US for a set of cams unfortunately.
depends on what u r after.
I reckon u should buy my schrick manifold and then get some 268s!

from what i have read 268s seem to be the popular choice but they may rob you of a little low down go (buy my schrick!). Dont quote me but i think they are worth about 15HP and make power much longer than standard cams.

I think autotech make a 262 as well which is sposed to be quite good.
Id say some sort of chip would be best used as well to take full advantage.

1500 is a steal steve get it! i would if i didnt have other plans . . .

as for cams i agree that 268's wd the mani would be wicked! coupled wid a chip and good exhaust, youd be well happy!!

How much total power gain would you get out of cams + intake manifold? $5,700 is a massive stack of cash!

I reckon it would take you over 200 hp. Don't forget that the VR was not built with extracting more HP from it. The 2.9 which is just an overbored 2.8 does 190hp in the Corrado with essentially the same components.

If you want VFM power gains you need to go with forced induction. NA engines are always going to cost money to get power from.

The Schrick Manifold isn't all about top end, it uses variable inlet lengths to get a better spread of power.

the schrick 268's were the most road driveable cams by all reports 10 years ago. intake manifold is great - from memory opens up at 3500rpm (tim?). good for a few hp and torque.

to take advantage of the cams, you need a new chip though. ii don't think it would be driveable without it.
