Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Aftermarket alarm

I am considering fitting a Mongoose M80S alarm to my daughter's cabriolet. I remember reading on one of the forums somewhere that there is a setting that needs to be changed because of the vacuum central locking. I vaguely think the signal had to go for 10 seconds or something like that.

Or would I be better off going electric aftermarket central locking?

Has anyone got any idea about these alarms and whether they have the switch??? for the setting?
How hard are they to fit? I have fitted alarms before but only on a Holden or Ford.

    Thanks in advance

I used to fit alarms in the UK and there's nothing wrong with the vacuum locking. Not sure you need to extend the pulse except for putting windows up on MK3s and the like.

I'll look it up tonight, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the hook up charts.

Well I bit the bullet and got the black wire Mongoose. It's working but I'm having a bit of difficulty with the Central Locking. I've located the green and grey wires near the drivers side footwell but I'm not sure what to connect. Can anyone help please. Here's a link to the wiring diagram for the CDL.

EDIT Bit of a problem with the url. Where **** is it needs d i c k in there. Damn internet police.

Your schematic was a big help Gavin but is a little vague in places.

Also, what wires do I use for the + and - of the door switch as well as the dome light output?

        cheers
